The strategic vision for the Aerospace Engineering department is to be the top-ranked program in the US. A systematic plan, which builds on our strengths and directly addresses our challenges, is under development to achieve this stature. As a step towards this vision, the following five research focus areas, which build on our strengths and closely couple to the College of Engineering strategic vision areas, were defined as follows:
- Aerospace Propulsion and Energy Systems
- Autonomous Unmanned Vehicle Systems
- Controlled Intelligent Materials and Structures
- Hypersonic Vehicle Systems
- Space Exploration and Sensing Systems
