Each year the Department of Aerospace Engineering presents the Larry Anderson Award to an outstanding senior within the department. This award was created by Professor Stanley Lowy in honor and memory of Larry Anderson. Larry was the Chairman of the TAMU Student Branch of the AIAA in 1968-1969 and tragically lost his life in an airplane accident the week prior to graduation.

The Larry Anderson Award is to honor a graduating senior who has exhibited the qualities of Larry Anderson. These qualities were:
• Exuberance for Aerospace Engineering
• Demonstrated Leadership within the Department
• Service to the Aerospace Engineering Program and its Students

Nominations for the Larry Anderson Award are solicited from the following groups:
• The officers of AIAA, both current and newly elected
• The officers of Sigma Gamma Tau, both current and newly elected
• The Faculty of the Department of Aerospace Engineering

The individuals in these groups may nominate as many students as they deem appropriate. Students who feel that an individual is worthy of the award should contact one of the above groups and ask them to submit a nomination.

Students eligible for the award are those graduating in May, August, or December of 2007.

The Award Recipient will be determined by a Selection Committee composed of:
• The AIAA and Sigma Gamma Tau advisors (possibly the same individual)
• The Director of Undergraduate Aerospace Engineering Programs
• Members of the Undergraduate Affairs Committee
• Up to two additional faculty members (number and names to be determined by Department Head)

The Selection Committee will determine the recipient based upon received nominations and on their own knowledge of eligible students. The committee is not restricted to select the recipient based solely on nominations received but may select a worthy student based upon their own knowledge who for some reason or another was not actually nominated by students or faculty. The recipient will be announced at the annual AIAA Spring Banquet.

To nominate an individual, please submit a single page nomination form containing the following information: Name of nominee, Expected Date of Graduation, and one or two paragraphs describing why the nominee is worthy of the Larry Anderson Award. Nominations should be submitted to the Advising Office in 750 HRBB by 5 p.m. Monday, April 23rd.
