The Dwight Look College of Engineering has been working to raise funds to complete the disassembly and reassembly process of the NASA space shuttle flight simulator. Look College has now raised over 80% of their financial goal and were able to accept the donation from NASA.
NASA will begin disassembly of the space shuttle flight simulator in September 2011, with an anticipated arrival date to Texas A&M University of June 2012.
The Look College and the Department of Aerospace Engineering are confident that the remaining 20% of the total $500,000 will be raised in the very near future and were pleased to be able to accept the donation for future research and teaching. It’s not too late for you to be a part of this historic event! Your help is still needed.
The shuttle simulator has trained 355 astronauts for 135 missions and will be the only large piece of equipment from the NASA space shuttle project that will remain in the State of Texas. NASA, Texas A&M University and Look College are partnering to provide the transportation and space necessary to house the fully operational simulator for K-12 students, public and researchers to utilize for many more years to come.
Donations are still welcome for the final portion of the total needed. For information on donating, contact Don Birklebach at (979) 845-5113 or d-birkelbach@tamu.edu,or visit aero.tamu.edu for a direct link to donate online.
