Three requirements must be met for admission into Upper Division AERO courses. They are:

  1. Completion of all CBK courses with a C or better
  2. A 2.85 CBK GPR
  3. A 2.85 TAMU GPR

Your CBK GPR calculation includes transfer courses but not credit-by-exam courses (e.g. AP). The highest grade will be used for repeated CBK courses, except if the repeated course was taken after a more advanced course in the same subject had already been passed with a C or better. For example, if you decide to retake MATH 151 after already receiving a C or better in MATH 152 that grade in MATH 151 will not count towards your CBK GPR. A course can only be taken three times, including Q-drops, First Year Grade Exclusion, and withdrawals.

The TAMU GPR calculation includes all courses taken at TAMU, including any repeated, but does not include transfer courses or credit by exam courses. For entry into Upper Division AERO courses, all eligible students will be given the benefit of First Year Grade Exclusion even if they have not elected to formally use it.

If you are lacking in only one of these three requirements, you are eligible to apply for the Aero Provisional (AP) Program.

**It is important to remember that the AERO Provisional (AP) Program is not a guarantee**

For the AP program, you may only be missing one CBK course if #1 is the requirement you have not fulfilled. There is one exception: If you have not taken MATH 152 or have not received a C or better in MATH 152, you are not eligible for AP Status.

If you are admitted into the AP Program your major designation will change from AERL to AERO, and you will be registered for AERO courses on a seat available basis. There is no guarantee on seat availability. In other words, you are eligible to register for AERO courses, but all of the AERO courses that you want to take may not be available. In addition if you are completing a CBK course as part of the AP program, this must be completed during your AP term.

AP status lasts for one semester. Upon completion of this semester you must have:

  1. A 3.0 semester GPR
  2. No Q-drops
  3. No final grade of D or F

If you meet these requirements, you will be taken off of AP status and become a full-fledged AERO student.

If you do not meet these requirements, you will not be allowed to continue as an AERO student during any future semester, and you will need to transfer departments.

To apply for the AP Program, complete the application once all of your final grades that are to be included in the application are received. This includes grades from summer courses. The AP application is available online or in the advising office located in 750 H.R. Bright. Applications are not reviewed until final grades are posted for the previous semester, or approximately two weeks before classes start. You will receive an e-mail to let you know if you have or have not been admitted into the AP program. Please plan accordingly.
