Travis & Rachel Joiner Memorial Scholarship

Last spring semester, Travis Joiner, an Aerospace senior, and his sister Rachel Joiner, a Geology student, were both killed in a tragic accident. In memory of our friends who we lost too soon, the department and numerous friends and family have established the Travis & Rachel Joiner Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship has been endowed and will be awarded this fall to a senior Aerospace student interested in space.

  • $1000 to be awarded to a 2010 graduating senior (May, August, or December) in Aerospace interested in space.
  • Applications are due by 12/1/09

General Department Scholarship Timeline

  • First Friday in February - Application process opens
  • Last Friday in February - Applications are due by 5:00 P.M.
    Turn in completed application, including two-page essay, to HRBB 750
  • Third Friday in March - Scholarship Recipients are announced
  • First Friday in April - Deadline for recipients to deliver thank-you letter for donors with addressed, stamped envelope to HRBB 750
  • First Wednesday in May - Scholarship Recognition Ceremony prior to AIAA Banquet. Attendance is mandatory for scholarship recipients.

What you Need to Know

The scholarship application process is now closed. Please visit this page next year for the 2010-2011 scholarship application.

If you are selected for a scholarship, you must attend the Scholarship Recognition Ceremony held before the AIAA banquet. This year the date is May 6, 2009.

The application must be filled out completely, signed, and returned to the AERO Undergraduate Programs Office in HRBB 750 with a two-page essay no later than the last Friday in February at 5:00 P.M.

The essay should present your background and personal strengths as well as personal circumstances.

Several scholarships will be considered with respect to this application. Each scholarship has its own criteria including financial need, scholastic achievement, and extra-curricular activities.
