  • 200’s are honors sections.
  • 500’s are standard sections.
  • 800’s are FCEN, or cluster, sections.

How do I register for a cluster?
Clusters are listed as FCEN (Foundation Clusters in Engineering) courses. If you register for FCEN 111-8XX, the registration system will automatically enroll you in ENGR 111-8XX, MATH 151-8XX, and PHYS 218-8XX. Remember you can only register for the entire cluster (not just one or two classes in the cluster).

Click here for a complete list of FCEN options, including meeting times and locations for all courses included in each cluster.

How do I drop a cluster (FCEN) section if I find another I would like to take instead?
Only your advisor can drop you from a cluster. Just ask.

Which KINE class do I have to take as pass/fail?
You must take at least one KINE 199 as pass/fail. If you decide to take an additional KINE 199, you can elect to take it as pass/fail or for a grade.

KINE 198 can be taken as pass/fail or for a grade. It is up to you.

How do I know which UCC classes will double count for credit?
UCC classes can double count for credit if they are cross-listed under International and Cultural Diversity and another UCC category such as Social and Behavioral Sciences, Visual and Performing Arts, or American History. See the University catalog for a complete listing.

  • Ex 1: ARTS 150 - listed under International and Cultural Diversity and Visual and Performing Arts - will double count.
  • Ex 2: POLS 207 - listed under Social and Behavioral Sciences and U.S. History and Political Science - will NOT double count.

Remember one of the categories must be International and Cultural Diversity!

I see a UCC course that I would like to take, but it doesn’t show up in coures.tamu.edu. Why is that?
Some UCC electives are offered once a year and may not be available during the current semester.

What courses can I take to meet the Political Science requirement?
If you are in Catalog 126 or later, only the following five combinations can be used to satisfy your Core Curriculum Requirements for political science. They are:

  1. (GOVT 2305 or POLS 206) plus (GOVT 2306 or POLS 207) (any combination)
  2. GOVT 2301 plus GOVT 2302
  3. GOVT 2301 plus (GOVT 2306 or POLS 207)
  4. GOVT 2301 plus (GOVT 2305 or POLS 206)
  5. GOVT 2302 plus (GOVT 2305 or POLS 206)

How can I check my AP credit and find out what classes I have credit for?
By looking at your degree audit on myrecord.tamu.edu you can see what credit you have transferred.

If your AP credit does not show on your degree audit, you may need to contact the College Board and request that your score reports be sent to A&M.

If your scores have already been sent, you may need to contact Measurement and Research Services (MARS) to accept your credit.

I took some courses at another college or University. How do I get the credit transferred to A&M?
Request that your official transcripts from the other college or university be sent to the A&M - Office of the Registrar.

How can I make sure a course I took at another college or university transferred to A&M?
By looking at your degree audit on myrecord.tamu.edu you can see what credit you have transferred.

How do I find out if a course will transfer to A&M?
If you are taking a course in the state of Texas, you can go to tccns.org (Texas Common Course Numbering System) and compare institutions using the online matrix, or you can refer to Appendix B of the University Catalog.

If you are taking a course out of state, please contact one of your advisors for more information.

How do I register for AERO 485 and have it count for technical elective credit?
Three total hours of honors AERO 485 will count for technical elective credit. All students are eligible to work with a professor and take an AERO 485 class, but it will only count as a technical elective if it is an honors course. You can go to honors.tamu.edu and find out if you are qualified to register for an honors course.

If you are qualified, you will need to contact the Honors Office directly to begin the necessary paperwork to register for an honors section of AERO 485.

If you want to register for a standard AERO 485 section (that will not count for technical elective credit), please stop by the advising office for the appropriate paperwork.

Do any AERO electives double count for both a design and technical elective?
No, there are no AERO electives that double count.

Can I take a graduate 600-level course as an undergraduate?
Yes. You will need to complete this form and turn it in to the undergraduate advising office.

How can my co-op count for an AERO technical elective?
Three hours of co-op (ENGR 385) credit will count for one three-hour technical elective course. Students with less than three hours of co-op credit are not eligible to receive technical elective credit.

Why is my major AERL and not AERO?
AERL = Aerospace Engineering major, Lower Level.

To become classified as an AERO Upper Level student you must complete all of your CBK courses with at least a 2.85 GPR and have an overall A&M GPR of 2.85 or higher.

What does U1 mean?
It is a student classification code. U1: Freshman 0-29 hours; U2: Sophomore 30-59 hours; U3: Junior 60-94 hours; U4: Senior 95+ hours

  • Ex: If a class has a prerequisite of U3 classification, only juniors and seniors can take that course.

How do I calculate my GPR?
For step-by-step instructions, please click here.

How do I change my major?
You just need to visit an advisor in the department you want to change into. Each department has different requirements, deadlines, and applications.

Note: If you register for a schedule of courses that do not follow your declared AERO degree plan, you will be in violation of A&M policy.
