Department Policies and Probation Procedures
Policies
All Aerospace Engineering students are expected to register for a schedule of courses that follow their degree plan. Failure to take courses toward your declared degree is a violation of A&M policy.
All CBK courses must be completed with a “C” or better (GPR ≥ 2.85) before students are eligible for upper division AERO status. Please see upper-level information for details on how your CBK GPR is calculated.
Be aware of prerequisites. Courses must be taken in proper sequence (See Degree Plans / University Catalog).
A “C” or better must be earned in all prerequisite courses.
A course may not be attempted more than three times. If a required course on the aerospace degree plan is not passed with a “C” or better after the third attempt, the student is no longer eligible to continue as an aerospace major. Q-dropping a course, First Year Grade Exclusion, and withdrawals each count as one attempt.
If a course is repeated, it must be taken before the student completes a more advanced course in the same subject. For example, once MATH 152 is passed with a C or better, MATH 151 cannot be retaken.
Three hours of co-op (ENGR 385) credit will count for one three-hour technical elective course. Less than three hours will not qualify you to receive technical elective credit.
Three hours of honors research credit (AERO 485/491) will count for one three-hour technical elective course. Less than three hours will not qualify you to receive technical elective credit.
Probation
Students with an overall GPR < 2.0 are on Academic Probation.
Pre-registration is a privilege. AERO will block students who are struggling (midterm D or F, academic probation, etc). If you are currently on academic probation, you will not be allowed to register for the next semester until your final grades for the current semester have been posted.
Blocked due to mid-term grades? In order to have your block removed, make an appointment with one of your undergraduate advisors. You must also complete the Mid-Term Block Worksheet and Planning Courses Worksheet. Bring two copies of each of the completed forms with you to your appointment with your advisor. Without two copies of each form, your appointment will be rescheduled.
