Dr. Rush Robinett III has three degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University (B.S. - 1982, Magna Cum Laude and Ph.D. - 1987) and The University of Texas at Austin (M.S. - 1984). He has authored over 100 technical articles including two books and holds 6 patents. Rush began his career at Sandia National Laboratories in 1988 as a Member of the Technical Staff working on the Star Wars Program (i.e., Ballistic Missile Defense). In 1995, he was promoted to Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff (limited to 10% of Sandia technical staff) for his work on ballistic missile defense countermeasures, precision pointing spacecraft, glide weapons, and robotics. In 1996, Rush was promoted to technical manager of the Intelligent Systems Sensors and Controls Department within the Robotics Center at Sandia which, at the time, employed 12 technical staff members. Over the next 5 years, he created a department that employed over 30 technical staff members and developed a new area of robotics called Engineered Collectives which includes self-healing minefields, collective unmanned underwater vehicles, and collective plume tracing. In 2001, Rush\’s department was split into two departments, Intelligent Systems Controls Department and Intelligent Systems Sensors Department, because of the increase in business opportunities. In 2002, Rush was promoted to Deputy Director of the Energy and Transportation Security Center where he is developing new opportunities in distributed, decentralized power and transportation infrastructures with a focus on entropy and information metrics.
